Heirloom Tomato Plants

Val from Otaki District

More varieties added to our stock for this weekend's markets at Waikanae (Saturday morning) and Otaki (Sunday morning). Should have full list available by Labour Weekend. Plants have come away really well in the past week even though the weather has not really warmed up. Not ready to plant yet? No worries, we will have plants available up til Christmas. You don't gain anything by planting too early.
Heirlooms are varieties that have been passed down through the generations for their superior flavour. There are some interesting back-stories to varieties like Mortgage Lifter, Aunt Ruby's German Green, and Cherokee Purple and some imaginative descriptions like Monkey's Ass and Dancing with the Smurfs.
They all taste like tomatoes used to do, so try something different and make space for some heirlooms.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
