Decoupage with Carole Hirst - A couple of Early Bird Prices left.

Lynette Ellison from Kapiti Summer School Charitable Trust

Bring in your old dressing table, bookcase or sunroom tea table for a makeover.
Some classes are full and others only a few places left. Will you miss out?

Decoupage is a traditional French craft, from the word “découper” or to cut, and involves cutting out small decorative pictures and arranging them on a wooden or glass surface. When you’re happy with the placement, you glue them to surface, ensuring no air bubbles remain and then add (many!) layers of a water-based varnish. As the layers build, a light sanding may be required over the cut-outs to make sure you get a nice even finish. You can even use different paint techniques, add some glitter or use pretty fabrics and laces.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:

•Cut and compose a pleasing design using various pictures
•Prepare bases ready for your decoupage design
•Use different techniques with spray paints to achieve varying effects
•Recognise the importance of multiple layers of varnish to protect your creation
•Recognise the potential for up-cycling your junk shop finds into unique new works of art

Please note that your finished creation(s) may not be completely dry when you take them home. Some materials provided but bring the items you want to decorate e.g. small side tables or stools, old small suitcases or a flat board, as well as paper and card items to cut out (gift wrap, calendars, cards etc.). These should be clean and painted ready to go. You may get a several smaller items done in the time of workshop.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!

Poll: Would you participate in local initiatives aimed at stopping plastic from reaching our oceans?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Volunteers will be scouring the foreshore, riverbanks, and islands for rubbish on Saturday the 13th as part of the Clean Up the Hutt event.

This initiative helps stop plastic from reaching our oceans and makes our waterways cleaner and safer for everyone.

We want to know: Should this be rolled out across all coastal cities in Aotearoa? And more importantly… would you get involved? 💚

Want the details? The Post has you covered.
