Helensville Women & Family Centre

Nicole from Helensville

Helensville Women and Family Centre supports, empowers and advocates for people so that they are able to reach their full potential and live meaningful lives. Established in 1993, HWFC has a reputation for providing quality counselling, family support, group programmes and events which are affordable, accessible and meet the needs of the South Kaipara community.
We are the only organisation to provide such services in our area and the demand is ever increasing each year due to rapid demographic growth. Local based services and programmes are vital as limited transport restricts access to wider networks. Operating in a rurally isolated community it is essential that we work in collaboration with other organisations and professionals and we truly value these relationships.
We build relationships that foster connectedness and work with local partners to strengthen well-being initiatives which ensure the best outcomes for the community. Through events and group programmes we bring people together and connect them with local services and supports as well as encouraging strong family values.

At HWFC we work alongside our clients to identify their needs, priorities and strengths and we assist them in implementing a plan that will help them to achieve their goals. An AMI Community Grant will enable HWFC to continue to build resilience and capacity in women, men, young people, children and families. This funding supports our clients to learn and develop coping skills, make positive changes in their lives, find solutions to the challenges they face and recover from trauma, grief, loss and addiction.

The assistance HWFC provides empowers clients to break the cycle of abuse – through this we facilitate and enable lasting change for future generations. Through supporting clients to strengthen their networks within the community, we expect them to become less isolated, more resourceful and less at risk. We truly believe that our interventions support safety and well-being, break down barriers and have a positive impact on not only the individuals that enter our service, but also for their children, families and the wider community.

Safe, supportive and empowered families are vital to the well-being of the South Kaipara community.
