Grant opportunity for tree crops community projects
The Wellington-Horowhenua Branch of New Zealand Tree Crops Association (NZTCA) wish to make available financial support for community tree crops projects from a $2,000 pool per annum, to promote core values of the NZTCA in the Wellington and Horowhenua region:
Core values for our branch:
Promotes interest in useful tree crops: fruit, nuts, timber, fuel, livestock fodder, bee forage and other productive crops.
Research and share knowledge about the many and varied types of trees we might grow in New Zealand to produce a useful crop, be it for people, animals or protecting our environment.
To bring the benefits of useful tree crops to the wider community of the district.
Other criteria
Projects must be based in the Wellington and Horowhenua region.
Applications are invited from home gardeners, small-block holders, community gardens, school gardens, horticulturists, farmers, scientists and all who are interested in growing productive trees to promote projects for greater public benefit.
The application period is Friday 21st March to Wednesday 30th April 2025.

Returned completed grant applications will be assessed against the criteria and core values of our branch by Committee members. The decision of the Wellington-Horowhenua NZTCA Branch Committee on applications is final and not negotiable.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
