NPDC Election 2019

Russell from Lynmouth - Moturoa

I want to draw the public’s attention to the NPDC Election 2019 advert which is being utilised in media print and billboards. The inclusion of “fluoride in our water” within the advert is misleading to the majority of the 2019 candidates, and to the general public, who are unwittingly being fed a false narrative.

In my view I also consider it to be mischievous, and an affront to the community’s long fought win to remove the toxin Fluoride from the drinking water in 2011.

Apparently fluoride was included in the advert because “All the issues we selected for use in this campaign are designed to encourage voters to think about and research what a candidate’s position is on issues that may be important to the voter”.
I am not too sure exactly who “we” are but “the advertisements were devised and created internally at the NPDC”.

The main reason for putting this out there is that I am anti-Fluoridation. But the reason in relation to the advertising is the fact that the fluoridation of the district’s water supply may not, unfortunately, ever be an issue for incoming Councillors. It certainly does not stand up as a current election issue.
I hope it does remain a decision for the NPDC and the Community to decide on but the Health (Fluoridation of Drinking Water) Amendment Bill before Parliament, if enacted, will take away both the public, and NPDC’s (Councillor’s), right to be consulted on the issue.
The current Bill is in fact blackmail with the threat of an exorbitant $250K fine for “not carrying out the Taranaki District Health Board’s (aka Ministry of Health/Government) order to fluoridate OUR drinking water”....ironically, but not unexpectedly, at our cost.
