This is a long shot but does anybody know of a group from New Plymouth who have recently visited Great Barrier Island. A friend of mine in Auckland was there at the same time and has a vest belonging to one of the group and would like to get it back to its owner. Padded sleeveless jacket size L found at Hartington DOC camp kitchen on Feb 12th the day the group left the Island. She does not have any names but knows one of that group left it behind. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
