Bus for Wakefield and surrounding area.

Peter from Stoke

In 1976 the Cuckmere Community bus was set up by a group of commuters who all traveled to London daily from a nearby station.
They set up a non for profit group, bought an old 15 seat bus (because a car licence is OK for this size) found a volunteer driver and then used it at first just for the morning train to London at about 7.20am and a return one from London that departed just after 5.30. Another journey was added for commuters and students going to Brighton, Eastbourne and Lewes.
From there it grew to a fleet of 8 15 seat buses, all bought now, serving a wide area with services.throughout the day, Sunday services for Ramblers, taking in many starting points for walks in the Cuckmere Valley and onto the South Downs, with the added bonus of stopping at the many pubs, some 400 years old, in the area.
They have taken over routes from Stagecoach, plus their subsidies.
Private hire is also available. All this with volunteer drivers and just a paid organiser.
See Cuckmere Community buses www.cuckmerebus.org.nz... to see their story.
This model could well work between Wakefield and Richmond and later to Nelson. (Non stop between Richmond and Nelson)
They receive subsidies from the County Council. Passengers over 65 years old and students travel free.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
