You should have lived in Franz Josef where the cost of a litre went up to $2.30, three years ago. My wife worked part time in the fuel station. Several part time staff were so embarrassed that they started telling tourists to go elsewhere if they could. There was also an additional $1 charge for using a credit card. Prices regularly fluctuated but it was generally accepted that the owner, who lived in Auckland, needed to replace his helicopter.
