Old tyres available

We at the Waimarama Community Gardens have quite a few old tyres to dispose of. Is there anyone in our community who could recycle them into something else. “I would like to nominate and THANK our great neighbour's living at Viv Davie Martin Drive for their creativity and huge effort during lock down. They lifted all our spirits with their daily Teddy bear reenactment on how to keep busy. Each day people came to see what Teddy bear was up to. With keen interest kids in our neighbourhood even gave Teddy a proper name...meet Vincent LOL! It's through times like this that such acts of goodness should be acknowledged and the memories they hold forever treasured. A selected few photos of Vincent's daily lockdown activities "thanks Vincent :)"

“Fishermans Friends”

A group of music executives from London get stranded in a tiny Cornish fishing port when their holiday yacht fails to arrive. While making the most of their unplanned holiday, they stumble upon a traditional sailor's shanty session being sung outside the local pub. One of the team gets left behind to try to sign up the singing fishermen to a music contract.

“FISHERMAN'S FRIENDS” has a lot of charm. We're in POLDARK territory, so the scenery is a guaranteed hit, and the fishermen are a likeable (mixed) bunch. All in all, there's a healthy dollop of the feel-good factor that made THE FULL MONTY and the MARIGOLD HOTEL movies such crowd-pleasers.

I really enjoyed this movie, based on a true story of a group of Cornish singing fishermen who made it big in the charts against all odds. This quintessentially British themed movie delivers the goods. This film of underdog makes good is based on real events. It's a gentle drama punctuated with some great songs. The comedy elements are well done while the romance perhaps feels a bit of an afterthought. if you're a fan of sea shanties you will love it.

Entry s 12 dollars per head.

There is a 4 week course starting net week Tuesday, 11.8., from 6 – 8 pm, $ 70 for 4 weeks. Clay provided & included on the first night, more can be purchased at the club at cost.

The first two weeks will focus on working with clay, simple techniques to get a feel for it, and making mugs and bowls, slab and coiling techniques.
After that we will focus on sculpture, like animals, birds, etc., or anything that might interest the participants.

This is really a class for beginners to get a feel for clay, the classes will be structured at first, like a step by step guide. You will end up with something beautiful, self made, that you can use!

There is also the possibility of doing a follow up class, maybe with a short break, maybe straight away afterwards, depending on demand.

Maximum 10 participants. To inquire please email info@ctraftpotters.co.nz.
