Battery bins are popping up across Nelson Tasman — and they’re already making a difference. In just a few months, three new bins have kept 1500kg of batteries out of Nelson’s landfill.
A fun fact? These clever bins were designed right here in Nelson after no suitable option could be found anywhere else in the country (or overseas!).

Poll: Should we be giving the green light to new mining projects? 💰🌲
The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
