Better Later Life – He Oranga Kaumātua 2019 to 2034

The Team from Office for Seniors

Hi Neighbours!

The Minister for Seniors Tracey Martin has released the new strategy for our ageing population, Better Later Life – He Oranga Kaumātua 2019 to 2034.

Like the rest of the developed world, New Zealand has an ageing population. This means there are some things we must consider and prepare for as a country.

Better Later Life takes a fresh look at what is required to ensure New Zealand is a great place to age and achieve the vision of making sure older people lead valued, connecting and fulfilling lives.

The strategy's key areas for action will be used to guide the priorities of what needs to happen in our action plan.

Delaware Bay estuary boat launching access

Tim O'Connell Reporter from The Nelson Mail

Following discussion at its recent Environment Committee meeting about boat launching at Delaware /Wakapuaka Estuary, Nelson City Council will seek further information and talk to iwi partners and the community. The matter will return to the Committee on 5 March 2020.

Are you a regular user of the estuary for fishing or maritime activities? If so, will you continue to use the area as per normal over summer and has there been an increase in compliance measures in recent weeks?

Be wary of severe weather which is approaching and may affect Nelson over the next 24 hours. Nelson is forecasted to expect 110 to 150mm of northerly rain, with the largest accumulations likely about the western ranges. Peak rates of 15 to 25mm per hour during Tuesday.

Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.

Valid: 24 hours from 7pm Monday to 7pm Tuesday. Keep up to date here.

Brook Valley Derelict Prefabs

Justine from The Brook

On the 14th November Rosie Barlett, Manager of Parks & Facilities, Nelson City Council wrote the following in response to my queries:

"The Sanctuary has not exercised the right of renewal for the lease where the prefabs sit so this has now expired. Council has given the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary until 31 December 2019 to remove the buildings."

As you can see from the photo I took this morning they are still there! And there is no indication that they are being readied for removal at all! What is going on?
