It's been a mixed summer so far for New Zealand. Much of the country has seen record breaking temperatures, drought-conditions and scrub fires. But in recent days the West Coast and Southland have experienced heavy rains, flooding, evacuations and closed roads. Our thoughts are with affected.

Our skies have been coloured by smoke blown over from the Australian bushfires, meanwhile Wellingtonians are just stoked if they get to see the sun.

How has your summer been?

STOP HIS 42,000 SATELLITES!
Elon Musk, billionaire, has sent up 120 of these Starlink satellite trains (cute names to impress us, eh?) and plans on sending up 60 more trains every 2 weeks, until he reaches 24,000.

They will outnumber the naked-eye stars. It It's only a matter of a few years before the sky as we know it — and as our ancestors have known it for millennia — will be irretrievably lost.

The night sky is one of the most inspirational views that our planet offers. Pondering the vastness of the universe provides inspiration to children, artists, scientists, and religious thinkers. The night sky is also an integral part of nature. For example, migrating birds navigate using the stars, which may be disrupted by these bright satellites swarming the sky . In addition, the satellites are already causing very serious damage to ground-based astronomy.

PLEASE sign this petition to SpaceX, Federal Communications Comm., & other companies planning satellite constellations. The signup is on the top right of this page:
secure.avaaz.org...

Please pass this on to as many people as possible, if you agree...

What they currently look like in the sky (AARGH imagine the final result— every night..) :

Her ex has just informed her that he can no longer look after her black Labrador female and has given her a week to find somewhere to house her dog! Her current landlord does not allow dogs and she is desperate to find a ‘foster’ home until she can find a suitable rental that will allow her to have her dog. The dog is now about 7 years old and has had a hip operation; she is not very active but very loving.
If anyone can assist, I can be reached on: 027 208 4496
Thank you,

Colour your world this February by taking part in the sixth Resene Hunger for Colour campaign! During the month of February you can swap a can of food for a 60-80ml testpot of Resene paint with all cans collected being donated to Salvation Army foodbanks.

Over the last five years, this campaign has seen Resene donate enough testpots to paint over 100,000 colourful square metres and generous Kiwis donate more than 190,000 cans.

We’d love to see the creations you make with your testpots – just message them to us here on Neighbourly for a chance to be featured!
