Poll: What do you do with your stuff when you get the urge to declutter?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Life gets busy—really busy. Between work, family, appointments, and a never-ending to-do list, it’s easy for things to pile up. Add fast fashion, online sales, and homewares aisles that whisper “just one more basket won’t hurt”, and suddenly we’re swimming in stuff and tat.

Sometimes, that stuff is cozy and familiar. But other times, after a long day, you walk through the door, look around, and think: “Okay. Something’s got to go.”

And when that urge to declutter hits, the question is—where does it all go? We're not talking about broken bits and pieces, but those perfectly good things that simply no longer fit your life or your space.

In her piece When decluttering can’t be avoided much longer, Joanna Davis shares the everyday items she's finally ready to part with—and it might just inspire your own clear-out mission.

We want to know:
🧹 How often do you get the urge to declutter?
🎯 Are there certain things you’ve got your eye on to donate or rehome?
💛 Do you have any favourite charities, op-shops, or community organisations you support with your preloved items?

Let’s swap stories, share ideas, and help great stuff find a second life—outside our closets and shelves.

It might not be making quite so many headlines these days, but unfortunately, Covid is still here. If you’re 65 or over, taking care of yourself is just as important as ever.

The good news is, the Covid vaccine can help protect you from serious illness. It’s free, and recommended for you and many others as long as you haven’t had the vaccine, or Covid, in the last 6 months.

To book your vaccination, or talk to your healthcare provider.

Beautiful solid wood handmade garden furniture.
These are made to order and to your requirements.

The chairs and table pictured are made from Redwood which I've used for the natural colour variation in the timber.
It looks gorgeous when oiled or clear coated.

However, I can make these from Redwood or Radiata Pine, Macrocarpa or any other wood you desire depending on availability here.

The listing does not include the cushions. It's easier to make bespoke furniture relative to the cushions you have rather than make a chair and find a cushion to fit.
So, you provide the cushions, and I'll make the chairs to fit.

The table is a similar story. I had a tabletop from another table that I built the frame to fit around. Again, from Redwood, although again it can be from any wood you'd like.

If you have a tabletop you'd like to use/upcycle I can use that or I can make a tabletop from your choice of wood.

I realise this is a lot of information so to summarise:

- Chairs $500 each redwood or pine. You provide the cushions.
- Table $300 each redwood or pine. You provide the top or I can make a wooden top for an extra $200 ($500 total).
Other wood can be quoted relative to its cost.

Dimensions of the furniture shown:
Chair 800mm x 800mm (footprint)
Seat height 310mm
Armrest height 530mm
Seatback height 740mm

Table 900mm diameter
Table height 400mm

Cushion seat 600 x 600 x 150
Cushion back 650 x 550 x 200
All sizes approximate.

Order now ready for Spring/Summer 2025/26
Can also build 2 or 3 person sofas to match - separate quote for these.

Contact me to discuss your requirements and make an order.

This is a two-day class.
Creating mosaics is a two-step process.

Day One:
The first day, we are creating a design.
Learn about the different cements, shards, and found objects that can be used in mosaic.
Then complete a design which will be 20 cm square.
It can be used as a wall hanging, kitchen trivet, or garden decoration.
Practice how to use the cutters, and to apply the cement. The adhesive used on the first day takes 24 hours to dry. If the piece isn’t complete in the time allotted, more time can be scheduled.

Day Two:
Second day, we are grouting our finished piece.
The adhesive needs to set completely before the piece can be grouted.
Overnight is usually sufficient, that’s why 2 days are scheduled

Grouting: We will learn all about different kinds of grout, and how to make different colours, and use the tools that are needed to give your mosaic a polished look.

Start time for each day is 9:30 am.
Bring something for your lunch, tea and coffee will be provided.
Day One finishes around 2 or 3 pm, depending on the completion of your piece.
Day two takes about 2 hours.

My workshop is not large, so I am offering classes for only two to three women at a time,
which gives the student a very personalised learning experience.

All materials will be supplied.

3 dates are happening for this:
* October 13-14th, October 23rd-24th, December 1st-2nd
