Art Deco accessories

Denise from Marewa

Part two of planning for February.

Stockings (not pantyhose) had back seams. Two Lippy Ladies in Market Street have a fabulous selection.

Hats: most are familiar with the cloches that were fashionable in the 20s and early 30s. Due to financial constraints, they were likely to have been worn by some through to the late 30s but there are many other styles to consider. Obviously, Charleston Chic and Decorum have lots for you to choose from and Napier Central in Hastings Street have some too.

Gloves: Charleston Chic, Decorum and Napier Antique Centre are the shops for these essentials.

It's the hats and gloves that really finish your outfit and make you a 1930s lady. I don't find it too hot to wear stockings and gloves in February but if you do, there are crocheted summer lace gloves available. It has always been correct to wear hosiery with closed shoes.

The attached document shows some fashion and includes a free knitting pattern. I wear knits in February.
