Te Runga Scout Group needs your help please

Julie-Anne from Masterton District

Sorry this is a long post - but is worth the read, thank you for your time.

Te Runga is a unique Air Scout Group that since 1954 has (trained thousands of youth (generations of some families) in Masterton and the surrounding area into being well rounded and confident adults.

Scouting is and has always been an organisation that provides leadership, confidence, life skills, and respect mainly through outdoor adventure activities. Where our youth work in small groups, and in Te Runga’s case also learn about aviation. For over 20 years girls have also been a key part of Scouting in New Zealand.

Sadly during the past few years Te Runga numbers have been declining while other groups have been expanding throughout the region and country.

We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers preferably with some Scouting or aviation experience to donate some of your time to help revive the Te Runga Scout Group. We need someone with management skills to coordinate the group as well. This is your opportunity to give back to our future adults and leaders.
Although the core Scouting principles and values have not changed in the past 110 years, in recent years Scouting has evolved to suit the desires of today’s young people. Training and support of leaders is a key part of the national growth strategy.

In addition to the local activities Scouting offers nation schools for Aviation, Photography, Mountaineering, Canoeing, Caving, and Snow skills. We also have major national events such as an 11 day Scout Jamboree every 3 years for Scouts (11 to 14 years), Venture for (15 to 18 year olds). Rimutaka Zone combining Upper Hutt and the Wairarapa holds a family camp in February as well as takes part in SCOUTS New Zealand National Mudslide Day, takes part in ANZAC ceremonies where Te Runga provides support at Tinui, combined section activities for Cubs and our youngest members the Kea section, campfires and much more. Our youth also have the opportunity to learn about theatre with the Hutt Valley Gangshow and performing art camps. There are also world Jamboree’s and international events our youth and leaders can attend.

Scouting provides training in a safe learning environment and confidence building for youth from many different backgrounds and abilities.

If you can help please contact John Cavill the Rimutaka Zone leader on 04 529 8994 or email cavilljp@gmail.com

Mitre 10 $20 Store Card Boxing Day Promotion

Dave from Masterton District

If you shopped at Mitre 10 Masterton on Boxing Day, redeemed a Mitre 10 Gift Card, but was refused a $20 Store Card for every $100 spent, contact Mitre 10 Customer & Store Support at customersupport@mitre10.co.nz.

Mitre 10 Masterton staff misinterpreted the promotion’s terms & conditions, as can be seen in the screenshot of the email I received in response to my query after my partner redeemed a $200 Mitre 10 Gift Card and was told she was ineligible for two $20 Store Cards
