Help for injured duck needed please.

Dean from Masterton District

I am a grown man and nearly crying.

I have had a duck been visiting me for YEARS ( i would say at LEAST five years ) here at 33 Millard Ave., Kuripuni and she had a baby who i have seen grown up over the last two months or so.

I have named the mother "Quacky Mc Quack Quack". :)

They have really made my day when they visit.

They obviously trust me and trust my cats whom they frequently bully to get their food.

They live in a paddock directly opposite me.

I try and walk them across the road as I did today.

Unfortunately, I let them down very badly and was not quick enough when when one did not scurry out of the way in time for an idiot white ute driver and went under the wheels.

It is injured.

wing and leg.

It was heartbreaking to see the other duck rush back to the injured family member.

it has managed to somehow pull itself off the road and tried hard to climb through the wire fence and then made it.

she is not walking, more pushing herself along

i have circled where i think they live.

I have just gone back to take a photo of her, but she has managed to drag herself off somewhere. She was breathing pretty hard.

Can anyone please help this duck?

I don't know if there is a bird sanctuary if a vet can help or worse comes to worse, put her out of her misery?

I don't know whether to ask my across neighbour if i can look for her on their property, or wait to see if they or one of them comes back here.

Please message me if you can help. 021 134 2089

I feel so bad and sad that I did not look after her enough and let her down.

i COULD of run out on the road, but thought the idiot will slow down. but no, he just plowed into them and kept going.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
