Volunteers needed for exciting new kids event | Sat 21 Nov 2020

Catherine from Greytown

We are seeking volunteers to marshal along Upper Belvedere Road and Fensham Reserve. If you have a spare few hours in the morning of Saturday 21 November, and would like to contribute to this exciting new opportunity to get young people active, please email: kiaora@createasplash.co.nz.

SPLASH is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children in its care. Staff and volunteers will work together to respect the rights of children and young people. Volunteers may be asked to be police vetted.

WAITRI 2020

The Kids WAITRI is a new multi-sports event that aims to get kids active by bringing the experience of gaming off the sofa and into the bush and the paddock.

It introduces kids to triathlon and adventure racing, but has a unique twist. The event also includes paintball as one of the event disciplines, so kids get to combine their gaming skills with biking and running.

No other event in New Zealand or in the world right now, can offer this activity as part of a kids multi-sport race. The event also gives kids an opportunity to be part of the replenishment and sustainability of the environment by making a valuable contribution to the conservation of Fensham Reserve.

There is a short course for kids, aged 5-7 years old, which will take place in the surrounding paddocks at Borderlandz Paintball, and a more challenging course for kids aged 8-17 years old, which includes two 3.5km mountain bike legs along a traffic-managed Upper Belvedere Road and a marshalled 2.5km trail run around the Fensham Reserve circuit.

The cost is $15 for 5-7 years old (or $10 for the first 25 registrations) and $25 for 8-17 years old (or $20 for the first 25 registrations). Numbers are limited in each category.

A whānau member can accompany a participant on the course in the 8-17 year old category.

Please email kiaora@createasplash.co.nz to let us know the participant you would like to accompany on the course.

Don't have a bike? Get in touch as we may be able to source one for you.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!

Roller

Warren from Masterton District

Has anybody got a concrete or water filled hand roller that they don't need anymore. I'm putting down a new lawn and need it to compact the dirt down.
