Give A Little Page link is at the bottom of this blurb, thanks.

We have started the fundraising with Sausage Sizzles outside Countdown in Masterton, Raffles and selling Glow Sticks at the annual Fireworks Display. We have more fundraising coming up in 2019 and with our goal being so big we are going to need a helping hand to get all of our Scouts to this Jamboree.

This is where you can help out by giving a little to help us reach our Goal, the cost to attend Jamboree per Scout is around $1,600 and we have between 20 - 25 Scouts interested in attending so any help we can get to get all of our Scouts to Jamboree is appreciated.

Please go to our Give A Little Page at the following link to help our Scouts experience a once in a lifetime opportunity: givealittle.co.nz...

Thank you from the Whakaoriori Air Scout Group.

Summer is a great time to enjoy our coast and waterways, but there are some times and places where caution is needed. The best thing you can do to keep yourself, your family and pets safe is know what toxic algae looks like and avoid it.

The algae grows on submerged riverstones in a shiny brown/dark green coating, or as dark brown strands. When it dies it floats to the surface and forms small brown or white mats at the water’s edge

If a person in your group swallows even a small amount of toxic algae (coin sized or less) seek IMMEDIATE medical attention.

DOGS
Toxic algae is deadly to dogs, who love the taste of the mats which float at the river’s edge. Keep your dog on a leash and away from the water. If your dog swallows toxic algae seek immediate veterinary attention.

Featherston Community Swimming Relay is on Tuesday Feb 19th, starting at 6.30 pm, runs to approx 8.30 pm.
Teams of 4 swimmers swim 1 length each in a heat, then each team goes into a graded final. The fastest 7 teams swim off for the "Pioneer Trophy" in top final. We handicap the finals so finishes are pretty cool and action packed with all teams finishing at same time.
Each team can enter 1 swimmer into a separate 25 m Dash to win the SWDC "25m Dash " trophy. This sprint is not handicapped so it's a great adrenaline swim in the final. Current "Dash", champion Jon Winter, ex Olympic swimmer and ex Featherston Swimming Club member ,travels from Kapiti to compete annually and is over 40 yrs.
Team entry is $30 per team. Spectators $2 . Great raffles and Greytown Butcher sausage sizzle available. Our SWDC councillors on hand to hand out chocolate as each swimmer finishes.

Please check out Facebook page for event updates.
