Nominations for Four New Community Panels in Lower Hutt are being called for

Hutt City Council

Are you a passionate member of your community and want to make a difference?
Can you actively represent the views of those around you to Council?

If you can answer yes or maybe to these questions, it’s time for you to think about showing your interest in joining one of four new Community Panels throughout the city.

The Panels will be made up of five community members and two local elected councillors and will be in the Northern, Western, Central and Eastern wards.
The Community Panels key responsibilities will be:
a) Representation – discuss, debate and provide feedback to Council on all important local issues, city wide matters of significance, Annual Plans and policy setting.
b) Manage a new Local Community Projects fund ($120,000 per triennium for each Panel).
c) Manage the Community Engagement fund.

We are looking for candidates who live in the Ward they seek to represent or alternatively be able to demonstrate clear connections/commitment to that community; and demonstrate an ability to represent their community both in the community and in formal public settings including Council.

Find out more about the selection process and what the Panel responsibilities are with the link below.
You can also get application forms from our Administration Building at 30 Laings Road, online at or at city libraries.
Applications close on 30 June 2017.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!

Poll: Would you participate in local initiatives aimed at stopping plastic from reaching our oceans?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Volunteers will be scouring the foreshore, riverbanks, and islands for rubbish on Saturday the 13th as part of the Clean Up the Hutt event.

This initiative helps stop plastic from reaching our oceans and makes our waterways cleaner and safer for everyone.

We want to know: Should this be rolled out across all coastal cities in Aotearoa? And more importantly… would you get involved? 💚

Want the details? The Post has you covered.
