Fireworks - Stay Safe

Fire and Emergency New Zealand - Lower Hutt

It seems that summer has suddenly arrived, and with it the fun of fireworks. But at Fire and Emergency NZ we know that we will see more unnecessary fires and injuries during the next couple of weeks.

We don’t want to be the “Fun Police” or try to stop others from having some fun with fireworks, so here are some helpful hints to make your Guy Fawkes night safe:
• Follow the instructions on the fireworks, but read them with a torch, not a naked flame!
• Make sure that the area where you’re lighting your fireworks is a big open area away from anything that could catch fire
• Never let a child light fireworks.
• Keep a bucket of water, or a garden hose while you’re lighting them.
• Keep all the unlit fireworks in a closed box or a bag away from where you are lighting them, until you’re ready to use them.
• If one of your fireworks doesn’t go – don’t try to relight it, stay away from it and dispose of it carefully later.
• If anyone gets burnt, put the burns under cold running water for at least 20 minutes.

Please, point the fireworks at the stars, not your mates, or your pets, or your house, or…… You get the message.

Have fun. Keep Safe, and remember, if the worst should happen in your home…

Get out and stay out
In a fire, get everybody out and call 111.
And whatever you do, stay out.

Speed limits around NaeNae

Susan from Naenae

Hi Neighbors, Just a heads up, I have just received a $170 fine for driving at 50km on Rata Street Naenae on a SUNDAY Morning. I wrote to NZTA pointing out and sending in a photo of sign stating that it was 30km on school days between those hours, but they said that the whole of Rata Street and some surrounding streets are 30km 24/7 and have been for over a year. Did I miss this been advised by council? Always good to be informed. Merry Christmas to all
