The Big Read is back!
Have you signed your tamariki up to The Big Read at Hutt City Libraries?
Research shows tamariki can maintain and even increase their reading levels if they keep reading over the summer break. The Big Read is a great way for your child to read books, complete fun activities and be in to win cool prizes while keeping the reading levels they’ve work hard to achieve during the year.
It’s FREE for any child aged 0-12.
Find out more at library.huttcity.govt.nz... or pop into your local Hutt City Library to sign up!
Our fabulous prizes include exciting experiences and books from these awesome sponsors: Cupcake Sweeties, The Dowse Art Museum, Friends of Hutt City Libraries, Gecko Press, HangDog Indoor Climbing Centre, Hutt City Kindergartens, Hutt City Pools, La Bella Italia, LightHouse Cinema Petone, Neko Ngeru Cat Café, Seashore Cabaret, Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Café, and Zealandia.
Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
Poll: Would you participate in local initiatives aimed at stopping plastic from reaching our oceans?
Volunteers will be scouring the foreshore, riverbanks, and islands for rubbish on Saturday the 13th as part of the Clean Up the Hutt event.
This initiative helps stop plastic from reaching our oceans and makes our waterways cleaner and safer for everyone.
We want to know: Should this be rolled out across all coastal cities in Aotearoa? And more importantly… would you get involved? 💚
