Event manager Michael Jacques, said the decision to cancel was disappointing, especially for the runners who had been training, but they needed to turn their attention to the 2021 event.
The 2250 registered runners would not be receiving a refund, but would be able to enter for free next year.
Jacques said the decision to cancel was "especially gutting" as it was the 35th anniversary of the marathon, which is the longest running running event in Wellington.

Have you seen one of these in action before? Watch a video of the action happening in the Daly Street area. It’s very interesting to watch the drilling process. This standard penetration test is to gather a sample to test the density and strength of the soil.
