Heavy rain warning
MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for Westland south of Otira.
Valid: Until 5:00pm today.
Forecast: Expect 250 to 350mm of rain to accumulate about the ranges, and 80 to 120mm near the coast. Peak rates of 25 to 40mm per hour this morning with thunderstorms likely. Further periods of significant heavy rain are expected this week, and additional warnings will likely be issued closer to each event.
River levels are high and the soil will not be able to absorb much more moisture, meaning flood risk is high.
