Tragic news in Hokitika - 9-year-old girl swept away in West Coast river
A rescue is under way after an 9-year-old girl was swept away in a West Coast river.
The girl and a man, who is in his 80s, got into difficulty and fell in the water near the Hokitika river mouth on Thursday morning. The man was pulled from the water, but the girl has not yet been found.
Our thoughts are with the girl's family and friends.
