Severe weather warning for Westland
A front moves across southern and central New Zealand later today and Wednesday, preceded by strong to gale northwesterlies and heavy rain. The heaviest rain is expected in the ranges of Westland from Wednesday morning through to evening, where 120mm of rain is possible.
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
Area: The ranges of Westland south of Otira
Valid: 17 hours from 3:00am to 8:00pm Wednesday
Forecast: Expect 80 to 120mm of rain. Peak intensities of 25 to 35mm/hr with possible thunderstorms during Wednesday afternoon and early evening.
