Officers … View moreA garden full of 300 stolen pot plants, gnomes and pink flamingos has been discovered by Hawke's Bay police in Flaxmere this week. The collection was found when police went to the property to assist a power company cutting off the house which had racked up a $10,000 power bill. Officers quickly realised some of the colourful items splashed around the property had been reported missing over the past few months.
Craig McKibbin, the man planning to swim the 85 kilometre perimeter of Lake Waikaremoana, has completed the challenge in seven days. As part of the 18 months of training and preparation he dedicated his swim to Hawke's Bay's U-Turn Trust which supports troubled young people.

UPDATE: Napier City Council withdrawn a paper seeking a decision on whether to proceed to the next phase of the proposed Hawke’s Bay multi-use sports facility to gather more information. It is likely the council will consider this decision later this year.

It is likely the council will consider this decision later this year.
ORIGINAL POST: The cost of a velodrome and multi-use sports facility proposed for Napier has jumped from $15 million to $22.9 million. The 52 per cent increase from a previous estimate is outlined in a detailed business case for the project, commissioned by Napier City Council and due to be discussed by councillors at a meeting on Wednesday. The council is proposing to pay for a third of the costs and the new projections mean the contribution from ratepayers would increase from $5m to $7.7m.
