Would boarding houses help ease homelessness?
Peter Humphreys thinks so, and he's spent the past 11 years managing nightshelters in Hamilton.
"There was a paternal or maternal person running it, and they'd keep an eye on [residents], and they'd have a community," he said, "if they misbehaved they were told off, and hygiene was kept up."

Grant Kilby has always loved camping. His mum was director of health at the YMCA, and he would attend YMCA camps in the school holidays. “I think it was mandatory that I was there,” he jokes.
He went on camping holidays with his parents, and later, took his own kids.
“Camping’s been in my blood.”
