Hundreds of roles at Te Whatu Ora Waikato are vacant, including a senior pharmacist position unfilled for 1081 days and more than 250 nursing jobs.
Nurses have “gruelling and relentless workloads“ according to a 30-year veteran who recently resigned from a Waikato Hospital role, saying there was high turnover and she was one of few seniors.

The health system has been accused of breaking the law amid sky-rocketing demand for community-based nurses in Waikato.
This comes as the supply of district nurses lags behind referral increases of more than 100%, leading to staff burn out and an “unprecedented” service failure.
