Bolger, who died on Wednesday at the age of 90, was the country’s leader at the time of the formation and signing of the landmark Waikato-Tainui Raupatu agreement in 1995, in which the Crown formally acknowledged the wrongful confiscation of 1.2 million acres of Waikato land, with a Treaty settlement of $170 million.
