Poll: Should McD's ditch plastic straws?
Morning neighbours! Our front page story today features three Hamilton high schoolers who made a plea to fast food giant McDonald's to adopt a 'straw on request' policy, but the burger chain shrugged off the request. Do you think it's reasonable for staff to ask customers whether they want a straw rather than automatically dishing them out with every drink? Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Walking path & not one facility I could find to give a dog a drink of water.
Council. I would like to suggest that a dog drinking post or two be erected, with a metal bowl below and a self stopping tap to top it up, to give fresh water to thirsty dogs who accompany their owners on this pathway. Perhaps a water fountain at the top for the owner as well. Thank you.
