Seddon Community and Neighbourhood Support Group
Seddon is our small rural township located to the south of Blenheim on SH1. Rocked and devastated (again) by the quakes in November 2016. With the loss of access to Christchurch via the Main North Line, and SH 1, we are at the “end of the line”. Every one of our self employed residents has taken a huge hit, many of whom can no longer support themselves especially with the removal of all emergency funding as of the 14th February. we are hoping to be able to provide to the whole community, access to essential first aid kits at reasonable and affordable costs to all the residents. It is for this initiative we are seeking some funding in order to subsidise these kits. VOTE NOW!!

Hi Neighbours - we would like to thank residents for their efforts to conserve water in the past couple of days as we monitored the effects of the storm on our Eastern Bulk Main repair site.
We're glad to say the latest inspection of the site has shown our repair work to date has been effective in protecting the site during the heavy rain. As we look forward to some better weather, we now do not expect to need to shut down the main as a precaution. Monitoring will continue until the full repair can be completed in coming weeks.
We have lifted the request for urgent water conservation at this stage but remind people to be smart with water use. Once again, we appreciate the support from our community as we continue to respond to this, and many other issues following the rain event.

Monitoring overnight and this morning of the riverbank subsidence near our Eastern Bulk Main water pipes has been completed and shows an improved situation. The urgent stabilisation works we have been putting in place in recent weeks have proved effective at this stage despite the weather and high river levels. Further rain is forecast locally and in the Taupo catchment this afternoon, so we are maintaining our monitoring.
We are continuing to request that people conserve water just in case we have to shut down this main, and we thank the community for their efforts.
It is important to note that these precautions are all about potential disruption to supply of water, not about water quality. There are no issues with our water treatment plant or our ability to treat water. The issue is basically that if further subsidence affects the Eastern main we may have to supply the city from the Western Main only.
The heavy rain, coupled with soaked ground, created a number of wastewater overflows at sites throughout the city yesterday. As of this morning we are aware of 77 properties which have been affected and clean-up work is being organised. We understand people want this work done as quickly as possible but we simply can’t get people and equipment to everyone at the same time and ask for your patience while our crews get it sorted.
