Slip expected to cause delays on West Coast highway
A slip is blocking a section of a West Coast highway after heavy rain.
Christchurch Transport Operations Centre spokesman Steven Mann said on Monday morning a section of the Otira Highway (State Highway 73) between Otira and Kumara Junction was blocked.
The road had been reduced to one lane and motorists should expect delays while the slip was being cleared.
According to the MetService website, about 73mm of rain fell in the Westland area on Sunday.
Heavy rain with thunder and hail was expected in the area on Monday morning before clearing later in the afternoon.
