What do you think should be done about this West Coast Beach?
Hokitika residents say the smell from the oxidation ponds is unbearable and the discharge pipe is pouring dirty yellow liquid, wipes and condoms on to the beach. Resident Max Dowell said the odour problem was caused by SilverFern Farms discharging commercial waste into the ponds. Westland Mayor Bruce Smith said the meatworks had a consent to discharge into the ponds.
