Ronald McDonald sponsor a room initiative puts the spin on open home

Jake Kenny Reporter from Community News

Ronald McDonald House (RMCH) has launched a new 'sponsor a room' initiative aimed at making up for fundraising efforts hampered by Covid-19.

From upwards of $5,000 a year, funds generated from the programme will enable RMHC New Zealand to provide and maintain comfortable and beautifully furnished bedrooms and bathrooms to families, offering a safe haven at some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Sponsor a room is in partnership with Ray White New Zealand.

Rooms from RMHC houses will be marketed by a Ray White agent, and people can sponsor the room with funds going to families in need.

By sponsoring a room, sponsors will assist with supplying soft quilts for beds, fresh towels and home comforts as well as freshly painted rooms ready to welcome families.

Brendan Shefford aka Big Red, the owner of Ray White in Rolleston, has been on the tools and showcasing the rooms at RMHC Christchurch.

Due to Covid-19, the postponement of many RMHC New Zealand fundraising drives, including the not-for-profit’s annual appeal, has seen the charity facing an unforeseen financial deficit. The Sponsor a Room programme is a meaningful way New Zealanders can support RMHC New Zealand, at a time when it is needed most.
