Newly-minted Selwyn MP Nicola Grigg might have expected a landslide victory in one of the country's safest blue seats.
And while her 5000-odd vote lead was a comfortable majority, the margin to her nearest rival took her by surprise.

The National Party candidate, a former journalist who worked as a press secretary for Bill English when he was Prime Minister, replaces retiring MP Amy Adams.
