A cold front over the lower South Island is forecast to move slowly northwards during today and Saturday, delivering a period of rain to western and southern parts of the South Island. Heavy rain Watches are now in force for the ranges of Buller and Westland including Mount Aspiring National Park, southern Fiordland, Southland, and the Dunedin and Clutha Districts.

Valid: 16 hours from 10:00am Friday to 2:00am Saturday
Forecast: Rainfall accumulations may approach warning criteria during this time.

Valid: 12 hours from 10:00am to 10:00pm Friday
