New Quarry in Featherston. Plans to Crush Rock Onsite.
Hi neighbours
I'm writing to bringing your attention to a new quarry that has been approved by Greater Wellington Regional Council for Featherston without consultation to affected parties or even our local council. The area is 3.8km from the main street of Featherston down Wakefield St/Underhill Road down just before the Tauherenikau river (over the river from Greytown).
There is a new Resource Consent Application submitted to SWDC for a Rock Crushing Plant to be moved on site along with stock piles. This was not a consideration in what GWRC approved.
Given the high winds, the scope of the quarry 32.5hectares dug out 4 metres, the fact there are no established shelter belts to absorb dust, noise or vibration, safety concerns, roading, environment and more, many people in our community are totally against it.
The application is incomplete with poor levels of information. No proper sound study of the site (only another plant at Diversion Road), no seismic study despite being near a fault line, no geology study to rule our the most dangerous biproducts such as silica, etc. I could go on.
There has been little concern for the environment including wetlands, waterways which are habitats for eels, native bird life and the country lifestyle that we, in the Wairarapa, enjoy and treasure. There doesn't appear to be any consideration for the significance to Maori of the area and river.
Many businesses including work from home businesses as well as our local honey ventures will be jeopardised. This is an issue for our united communities.
Our local minister, councillors and parties with a vested interest have been contacted.

Or prepare an objection for SWDC - without delay - the number of days since application is ticking so this would need to be done before end of next week.
