Budget blowout for South Wairarapa
A year after Wellington Water took over South Wairarapa’s ‘’three waters’’ services ratepayers are being stuck with millions of dollars in extra costs.
After unexpected expenses and revised estimates pushed costs up by as much as 180 per cent, the council is on the hook for at least $2.6 million more than budgeted.
With a population of 11400, this translates to around $400 extra for every rateable property.
South Wairarapa Mayor Alex Beijen said councillors would be asking more questions of Wellington Water at the next meeting on November 4.
