Nicole Reporter from Dunedin News

Thousands signed up to borrow ebooks and audiobooks in the first week of lockdown alone, breaking some library records, and the ongoing restrictions saw numbers continue to soar.

In Dunedin, the number of ebooks and audiobooks borrowed rose 60 per cent compared to March 2019.

A total of 6980 ebooks and audiobooks were borrowed, compared with 4235 in the same period last year.

Throughout April, a further 13,727 were borrowed, a rise of 65 per cent compared to the 9024 borrowed in all of April and May 2019.

His letter was one of dozens sent to the Dunedin City Council about its new marketing campaign, and released to Stuff after an Official Information Act request.
