Lyttelton's historic red rock retaining walls
The Council needs help to restore Lyttelton’s historic red rock retaining walls.
The walls are a distinctive part of Lyttelton’s streetscape and many of them were built in the mid-19th century by the inmates of Lyttelton Gaol. During the earthquakes many of them collapsed or were so badly damaged that they needed to be deconstructed. Now the Council is asking for people to donate any rock they may have so it can be used to complete the high priority retaining walls.
PM us with your details and we'll pass them on to the person dealing with this project.
The recently completed Sumner Road wall shows the effect of using the red rock.
