Habitat's "The Remakery" set to open

Annette Lambly-Robinson Reporter from Whangārei Leader

Habitat for Humanity Northland are launching a new social enterprise called The ReMakery.
The ReMakery will be an upcycle store and community space that focuses on keeping goods out of landfill and upskilling the community to learn how to do this.
Profits made go directly to Habitat for Humanity’s Home Programmes in order to help build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
A space at 3 Woods Road, donated by Spacelamp will be used to host workshops and events through partnerships with community groups such as SewGood, Boomerang Bags, EcoSolutions, Ano Clothing and many more.
A container positioned at the same site donated by Sea Containers; will become a ReMakery Shop, stocked full of unique upcycled furniture, clothing and thrifted goods.

Habitat for Humanity Northland have also partnered with Whare Bike. Whare Bike is an open workshop and social space that helps to reduce waste going to landfill by inviting the community to come together to service, fix, build and ride their bikes.
The ReMakery will begin running the Whare Bike workshops and have also partnered with Northland Region Corrections Facility and local bike shop Missing Link to start teaching the prisoners to build bikes from old bike parts donated by Northland Waste.

Volunteers interested in getting involved with the project in anyway to contact Habitat on 09 438 2250 or email officenorthland@habitat.org.nz

Share your New Zealand music memories...

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

It's NZ Music Month and New Zealand really has some beautiful songs from artists that we call our own.

Whether it's April Sun in Cuba, Don't Forget your Roots, or How Bizarre or Bic Runga's 'Sway' - songs have a way of unlocking memories and evoking old feelings.

In honour of NZ Music Month, share a New Zealand song or artist that is special to you and explain why.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
