Travellers looking to escape inner city traffic jams have faced half-hour to 40-minute waits as a bottleneck at the entrance to Tairua.
But that could be changing as - though the one-lane Pepe Bridge on State Highway 25 has temporary traffic lights this summer - Thames Coromandel district mayor Len Salt says plans to double-lane it are underway.
