120,000 properties are currently without power and power companies are working to restore this.
Auckland Council and partner agencies are prioritising making sites safe and securing damaged trees and debris to make it easier to restore power.
Residents should call 09 301 0101 to report trees down on public land and around the roading network. Care must be taken around downed power lines.
Auckland Emergency Management Director John Dragicevich says contractors have been out all night to remove trees that are impeding power restoration work.
“We are working quickly to determine the full extent of the damage from last night’s storm.
“We will be prioritising cleaning up trees that have damaged power lines and clearing the roads from any storm debris that will impede traffic flow.
“Emergency Services received over 1600 calls over night as a result of this event. If you or your property is at risk, call 111.
“Take extra care when travelling and drive to the conditions.”

Please please prepared for a night without power, and potentially into tomorrow as our crews work in these trying conditions. Please log your outage below or call 0800 100 202 if you do not see it on the below map. Our top priority is to make safe - ensuring the lines down, trees on lines etc are made safe for people and animals. Once we have cleared safety issues (of which there are many tonight) faults will start to be repaired. Thank you for your patience as the crews work hard out there. Stay safe.
Many people assume the outages team know when the power is off at their place. Often they don’t. That will change when the smart network is fully complete. Until then, when your power goes out:
If you have mobile internet check the outages map to see if your outage has been reported.
If not, report it while you are there.
If no power means no internet at your place, call 0800 100 202 to report the outage.
If no power means no phone at your place ask a neighbour to report it, or sit tight.
The faster you tell us about an outage the faster we can locate and repair it. Some outages signal safety issues, so please contact us when the power goes out via the outages map or by calling 0800 100 202. Calls are free and you can choose whether or not to accept any service charges.

I've just had a big clean out of the loft in my garage and here's a list of items looking for new homes! I don't want anything for them - just happy if someone can use any of them. I've got photos of most of them and happy to email to you if you wish. Or you can come by appointment to my home in Waiau Beach to view them.
Golf bag and clubs. Well used but I think there's a full set. I bought them second-hand. Would be good for a beginner.
Golf trundler. Hardly used.
Yard broom head. Brand new. 40 mm long. 14 mm bristles
Miniature ironing board. Seldom used. Excellent for a small flat or a student.
Upright wall storage rack for the garage - never used. 3 projecting hooks. (sorry, a bit hard to describe!)
A box of cassettes - popular music of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. If you've got some way to capture the music onto modern equipment you might enjoy the trip down memory lane.
Some anchor chain
Tall black decorative stand - could use for tall flowers or umbrellas. Light-weight fabric. In excellent condition.
One round tray for a worm farm. Similar to the ones at www.bunnings.co.nz.... I bought it from WormsRUs when they were behind The General Store at Karaka. Could also be used to grow seedlings. It's 50 cm diameter.
Hoover power head vacuum cleaner. The main machine has been causing grief but a clever handyman might be able to get it going, or you might want the external diverter (quite new), the 4 brand new dust bags or the head or hose.
A selection of used garden pots
Some used Eastlight lever arch ring binders - still have some life in them.
Please call for any information, photos or to make an appointment to view (and have a cuppa and enjoy the view while you're here, if you've got the time!)

As we age, the risk of having a fall increases. Those over the age of 65 have a 1 in 3 chance of having a fall and those over 80 it’s 1 in 2.
Having a fall can be devastating and can often result in a broken bone, which is painful and can take a long time to heal stopping us from doing the things we love.
The good news is that many falls are preventable. A new movement called Live Stronger for Longer aims to help reduce the risk of having a fall so we can live an independent and active life.
Having good strength and balance is key to staying on your feet. You can find approved community strength and balance classes in your area and practical information, advice, and resources on reducing the risk of falls.
Live Stronger for Longer and join the movement today.
Proudly brought to you by ACC, HQSC, MOH and your local community health providers.
