Tsunami Siren Testing

Gareth from Burwood

Tsunami Siren Testing on Sunday 30th September

On Sunday, 30th September, the tsunami sirens installed along the coastline between Brooklands and Taylors Mistake will be tested as part of a biannual testing exercise to coincide with daylight savings.

The sirens will sound at 11am for up to three minutes and can usually be heard a few blocks from the coastline.

It’s a good time for people to check whether you are in a tsunami evacuation zone, and to work out with your family on where to go if you needed to evacuate and how you will get there.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
