2. Change your cooking habits: Eat fresh veges instead of cooking. Using the oven for an hour a night can add $20 to your monthly power bill.
3. Use curtains to trap heat in: Let the sun heat your home during the day then close your curtains to stop the warmth escaping in the evening.
4. If you’re away, turn the hot water cylinder off: You can save up to $36 on your power bill if you switch your hot water cylinder off while away on weekends.
5. Make the most out of your FREE Hour of Power: Utilise power deals like Electric Kiwi’s free Hour of Power, which gives you one off peak hour of free power a day. Use this hour to heat your home, turn on the dishwasher, or run the washing machine and dryer.

Stolen last Tuesday from Christchurch CPIT (ARA) SCOTT GAMBLER MOUNTAIN BIKE. Very distinctive. Black. Carbon fibre full suspension. Just had disc brakes serviced...not burnt so they make a hell of a noise...I want this bike back. grateful for any info that leads to recovery of my bike. thanks Toni

Christchurch must "look a lot better" than it does currently if it wants to keep its Garden City label, Mayor Lianne Dalziel says. Do you agree the city needs a spruce up?

That's excessive!
They have a related service called Goodnest that matches customers to trades services. It's big in Auckland and Wellington and they are setting it up here in Christchurch.
I'm a local handyman. I don't object to paying a finders fee for someone finding me work but I think a fee of $10 per hour is excessive. Goodnest approached me, saying they would charge any work I did through them at $45 per hour and give me $35 per hour. Needless to say I declined. Stinging someone an extra $70 a day for nothing is a rip off.
If you want a local trades or service that comes with feedback and references, stick with Neighbourly, you'll get the same deal for much less. (And of course if you are looking for a handyman give me a call on 044 451 7314 for a free quote and advice).
