Matariki spotting
Keep an eye out for Kaka Point's favourite sea lion. Residents Helen Poka and Nigel Burton are doing their best to keep this special girl (who has possibly had a pup that she's got stashed away behind their house) safe, as she crosses Kaka Point Rd to and from the beach. Matariki gave birth to her first pup in the foundations of a KP crib two years ago, but seems to have gone off-piste with this one. Thanks to Helen and Nigel for the great photos and sharing their story with the Clutha Leader and Stuff this week.

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
