Auckland-based charity The Mums' Clique is getting more than 100 requests per day for its essential items packs and Plunket has noted more babies are developing wounds from being left in nappies for long periods because their parents can’t afford to buy more.

Auckland will remain in lockdown until Sunday, a four-day extension of the lockdown which was meant to lift on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said there were promising signs that the Government was getting on top of the virus, but a short extension was recommended by director-general of health Ashley Bloomfield.

On Sunday night Auckland would move down to level 2. The rest of the country would stay at level 2.

Ardern said the rest of the country needed to stay at an elevated alert level to mitigate the risk of cases leaving Auckland when interregional travel resumed. Click here to read more.

No matter what the Government advises regarding covid-19 the opposition will condemn it. IT SHOULD NOT BE A POLITICAL ISSUE.
Opposition will apply no common sense but will refuse to accept the obvious and deny the success we have achieved to date.
In gaining worldwide recognition our overseas critics don't care about our political parties. The acclaim offered has come from accurate statistics and honest results.
There is much I could criticise this government for but I find nothing but praise for their covid-19 management if nothing else. That is not politics. Their decisions have been made by many dedicated and appropriately qualified people. The complex statistics and experience of other countries have been taken on board and much has been learned. As PM, Jacinda Ardern has conveyed those decisions quite clearly. As a leader she has delegated responsibility, encouraged positive thinking, and has been grateful for public cooperation. I do not recall her denigration of, or bad mouthing against, the opposition or anyone else.
Does it really need explaining that our economy will not recover if covid-19 gets rampant again. Does it need explaining that hundreds, maybe thousands, would die? Does it need explaining that our underfunded hospitals and staff will be literally swamped? Can we not see plainly what has happened in other countries?
I cannot condemn such irrefutable NZ success directly related to covid-19 management. I have reason to believe no other government in New Zealand would have done any better. Criticism is undeniably with hind site, it has to be, and only those who have the experience will know what is best.
Vote for who you like but please don't kid yourself we could have managed covid-19 very much better or that no mistakes would have been made. There is no magic wand.
It is also obvious that any other party would be borrowing billions of dollars to prop up the economy and help people. There is nothing new in that process.

Well, are these times surely sent to test us all?
If they are, we are all just surviving, some well(ish) and others not so well.
Still, as this pandemic is so new and there is nothing tried and tested to prevent, cure or even stop it in its tracks thus far, we have to stay focused and keep heading in the right direction of staying healthy.

We are all full of theories in one form or another, again, some good and others not so good. Some from experts and some from non experts.

Our trust and hopes are partially with the trusted community of scientists and medical experts and the rest with our own gut instincts.
The instinct to survive is the strongest one and we have learned over the many years to listen to it as well as the proven solutions by those mentioned above, both western and eastern versions.

However, occasionally a small wind of discontent can be heard starting way over there on the horizon. In this wind of discontent, it has gathered a lot of dust and rubbish along the way. It goes off in various different directions and occasionally finds it way back on track until it's off again in another direction.
Sometimes this wind of discontent can change things for the better, but more often than not it doesn't, it just causes chaos.

One of these 'little' winds of chaos is the whisper that Sweden is the example we should be following.

We all have thoughts about this, some rational, some not so much.
There are too many facts and figures to discount this.

There were two links previously posted in different posts here on Neighbourly that deserve to be posted together to disprove this notion that Sweden is/has done so much better. They are well worth the read.

1. No, Australia (and New Zealand) should not follow Sweden’s approach to coronavirus: theconversation.com...

2. Herd immunity in Sweden fails to materialize: medicalxpress.com...

P.S. The latest story, Sweden, which didn't lock down, has worst death toll since 1869 in first half of 2020:
