Missing cat found in Avondale to be reunited with owners in Invercargill
Hi neighbours!
A missing cat has been found in central Auckland despite her owners living 1641km away.
Tabby cat Smokey went missing six months ago, devastating her owner Ainsley Ormsby, who later moved to Invercargill after losing her job due to Covid-19.
But the new residents of the Avondale home called the SPCA after noticing a cat hanging about.
The car was identified as Smokey through a microchip.
Ormsby said she was excited when she heard the news her cat was safe.
“The family is very pleased that Smokey’s been found and to know that she’s not even injured is fantastic,“ she said.
“We presumed she’d been hit by a car and died.”
Smokey will now make the 1641km journey to Invercargill via a pet bus service.
SPCA will drop her off at the service on Friday, and she is expected to reach Invercargill by Monday,
An SPCA spokesperson said very often cats are brought in and are never reunited with their owners.
“It’s amazing to have one that we can actually get back to where it belongs and not have to rehome it,” she said.
