Jacinda Ardern and Clarke Gayford buy new family home

Brian from New Lynn

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford have purchased a new home in anticipation of their baby's June arrival. The couple will be upsizing, going from their three-bedroom brick home to a 1920s four-bedroom bungalow in Sandringham, near Eden Park. According to Ms Ardern's office the extra space is needed to house family that will be staying during her six-week long maternity leave period. It's a bit more expensive than her current home, with an CV of $1.77 million, compared to her current home's CV of $1.1 million. Described by the agents as a "bungalow haven with a twist", the house sits on a 643m squared section and even has a treehouse already built in a large pohutukawa. It's in the zone for Balmoral Primary and Intermediate, as well as Mount Albert Grammar and Auckland Girls' Grammar School. The listing's agent refused to talk about the sale, and said the vendors would not be interested in commenting either. Locals were however more than happy to comment, saying they were excited for the couple to move in. "I think people get it. It's a family area and it's getting more gentrified. It's the right look for her. It's not quite known yet when they will move in, but it is understood the neighbouring home is being investigated as housing for Ms Ardern's Diplomatic Protection Squad security team.
