This month is all about supporting our young people, to encourage and empower them to not only be the change-makers and community builders of tomorrow but also the best versions of themselves. To listen to their perspective and remember that it’s not just about what we can teach them, but what lessons they can teach us. After all, the recipe for creating healthy, happy children includes a lot of the same ingredients for building safer, more resilient and connected communities.

David White is the father of Helen Meads, who was murdered by her husband in 2009 after years of psychological and physical abuse. Since then, David has been campaigning around the country to bring further awareness to New Zealand's family violence issues and has acted as a support person for other victims. He has also met with his daughter's murderer several times in an effort to move on for the sake of his grandchildren, so he is better placed than most to understand the significance of the problem.
As part of his visit to Pakuranga, David will be giving a presentation to tell his story and speak about what he is hoping to achieve for New Zealand. Family violence is far too common in our country, so please come along to hear what he has to say so we can tackle this problem as a community.
Light refreshments will be provided.
